Bengal Tiger sightings - Chitwan National Park

Section image

With great excitement, we commenced our journey through the prime Bengal Tiger location of Chitwan National Park, home to Nepal's largest tiger population of 126 tigers and its most elusive predator, roaming freely in its natural home. Chitwan is also recorded to hold 68 species of mammals, 56 species of herpetofauna, and 664 species of birds. On this fascinating journey, we spotted various mammals including the greater one-horned rhinoceros and sloth bear, not just the elusive Bengal Tiger. Over five unforgettable days, our search took the form of three full jeep safaris by four-wheel drive and two full days exploring on foot, pushing deeper into the park than most visitors ever go. Each morning we set out fully equipped with packed lunch, fresh fruits, juice, and water to sustain us through the long hours ahead.

To see this most elusive of cats, we relied on a whole arsenal of techniques taught by our knowledgeable and highly educated naturalist, moving in complete silence, dressed head to toe in camouflage, crouching low in hides and waiting motionless for hours at a time. After five days of disciplined tracking, we achieved something few travelers ever do: we sighted the wild Bengal Tiger three separate times one of the greatest moments of our life.
